Amelia,

First of all, letters written back and forth should contain some drivel. I like you enough that I want to read even your drivel. I had a nice night, too. Chloe’s is a delightful place, warm instead of dark. Their Sole Meunière is outstanding and the sommelier always takes her time to teach me. Now all my friends think I’m a wine expert. See, that’s drivel and that’s okay.

I have considered your request for time and I’ll respect it, though staying away will be hard. Your absence will be a pain. I know that now.

I am a student of people and am impressed with your ability to view your own shortcomings. Few can do that.

I will wait. When you are ready you will write and say that surely I have moved on and found someone new, but you will be wrong. I wait for you, dancing outside of your cage and tempting you to join me in the movements of what could be our love. The problem is, Amelia, you’ve made quite the impression on me. I’ve met a lot of people, but never anyone like you.

And I also don’t think you’ll be long in your journey to break free from your cage. You are strong and will find the way. But more than that, I’ve made an impression on you. I’ve changed your life, your view of the world around you. You’ll be back for more sooner than you think. Mark my words, dearest.

Consulting? Really? What happened to not hiding yourself from me? I really don’t mind if you don’t want to get into it, but the weakness of that lie insults me.

See you soon,

Cordula
